Every view, drawn to match
In a design patent the drawings are the claim. We keep line work, shading and scale identical across every view, and use broken lines exactly where they belong.
The details examiners look for
All required views
Front, rear, left, right, top, bottom and perspective, plus extra views when the design needs them.
Consistent shading
Surface shading that shows contour and material the same way in every view.
Solid and broken lines
Solid lines for the claimed design, broken lines for environment and disclaimed features.
Matching scale
Every view drawn to the same scale so proportions never contradict each other.
From any source
We work from prototypes, photographs, 3D models, scans or sketches.
Colour on request
Black and white by default, colour when the office accepts it and your design needs it.

Common questions
How many views does a design patent need?
Usually seven: front, rear, left, right, top, bottom and a perspective view. We advise on extra views when the design needs them.
What is the difference between solid and broken lines?
Solid lines show the design you are claiming. Broken lines show environmental structure or features you are not claiming.
Can you work from a physical prototype?
Yes. We draw from photographs, 3D scans, CAD models or the product itself.
Do you offer colour drawings?
Most design patents use black and white line drawings, but we can provide colour drawings when the office accepts them.
